The University of Texas Permian Basin School of Nursing is celebrating the continued success of their graduates. The most recent cohort graduates have been taking their NCLEX (The National Council Licensure Examination) since their graduation in spring 2021. With a 91.9 percent first-attempt pass rate, the cohort surpassed the national first-attempt pass rate average of 85.3 percent. They also surpassed the state average, which is currently 91 percent.
Dr. Donna Beuk, Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Performance (CoHSHP), stated, “Graduating quality nurses is imperative for this community. There is a nursing shortage across the nation, and our service area is in dire need of increasing the number of baccalaureate level nurses who will care for this region’s growing and aging population.”
“A successful nursing program has been cultivated at UT Permian Basin,” shared CoHSHP Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Minerva Gonzales. “Previous cohorts have consistently raised the standard and this most-recent cohort continued the drive for excellence.
The UT Permian Basin School of Nursing leadership, faculty, and staff are devoted to student success. Department chair, Jesica Naiman, PhD(c), RN, COI, implemented the NCLEX-RN boot camp and encouraged students to have group study sessions throughout nursing school. Naiman stated, “When students experience a supportive learning environment, they are dedicated to truly learning and understanding the complex materials. They know it’s not just about a test. They want to be the very best nursing professionals they possibly can be.”
UT Permian Basin’s School of Nursing is still accepting applications for spring 2022. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2021. The TEAS Assessment has been removed as a requirement for admission consideration. Here are the requirements:
- You must have completed your General Education (Core) Science and Math requirements. However, other General Education (Core) courses do not have to be completed prior to the application process.
- A minimum GPA of 2.75 is required for admission consideration. Students being considered for admission into the UT Permian Basin School of Nursing will have an individual interview with faculty and community members.
