RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide financial analysis, budgeting and reporting for capital construction projects and/or operational departments.
  • Develop project and departmental budgets in accordance with utility accounting practices to ensure financial integrity of regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Develop and monitor cost breakdown structure by identifying the major deliverables of each functional area.
  • Facilitate monthly and weekly cost reviews with various stakeholders to create initial budgets, monitor spend, & adjust forecasts.
  • Interpret the performance of the schedule activities, analyze impacts to cash flow, and communicate issues to management.
  • Understand and adhere to Company financial controls related to capital construction projects and operational departments.
  • Audit invoices for adherence to contract terms and conditions. Ensure financial records accurately reflect work progress.
  • Perform regular cost variance investigations to ensure accuracy and consistency in estimates and actual cost. Identify trends, patterns, and root causes of cost variances.
  • Facilitate project/budget change control process to ensure accurate documentation and communication regarding changes to scope, budget, schedule, and forecast at complete.
  • Ensure month-end forecast reporting package is accurate for use in detailed cost reviews, cash flow analysis and reporting to Executive Leadership.
  • Develop positive relationships and communication channels with various internal and external stakeholders to promote efficient information flow related to projects and budgets.
  • Learn and utilize various software systems, including, but not limited to, PowerPlant, Oracle, Primavera, Maximo, Teams, SharePoint, and email.
  • Assist with special projects in support of the department. Budget Analyst II may work with or support Senior Budget Analyst projects that will increase the understanding of the department and its objectives.
  • Develop and maintain report formats and procedures.
  • Provide training on budgeting and accounting expertise and recommends appropriate accounting treatment of expenditures.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree PLUS four years or more job related experience
    OR
  • Master’s PLUS three years or more job related experience
    • Degree in Business Administration, Analytics, Mathematics, Construction Management, Engineering, Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee’s position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee’s home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $67,000 – $84,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
